How Does the Composting Process Work?

At Urban Organic Bali, we use the EM4 (Effective Microorganisms) composting method—a fermentation-based technique that speeds up decomposition while enhancing soil health. EM4 contains beneficial bacteria that boost microbial activity, resulting in high-quality compost with minimal odor.

🔹 Step 1: Waste Collection 🚛

We collect organic waste from households, restaurants, cafés, and businesses through our scheduled pick-up service, ensuring responsible waste management.

🔹 Step 2: Sorting & Preparation 🏡

At our composting facility, waste is carefully sorted to remove non-compostable items. We ensure the right balance of:
✔ Green materials (nitrogen-rich) – food scraps, plant waste
✔ Brown materials (carbon-rich) – dried leaves, sawdust, rice husks

🔹 Step 3: Layering & EM4 Treatment 🌱

• Organic waste is layered with carbon-rich materials to maintain proper moisture and airflow.

• EM4 solution is sprayed onto each layer to:
✅ Accelerate decomposition
✅ Control odor
✅ Enhance microbial activity

🔹 Step 4: Fermentation & Decomposition 🦠

• EM4 microorganisms break down organic waste efficiently through fermentation, producing nutrient-rich compost in just 3-4 weeks—faster than traditional methods.
• The process prevents methane gas formation, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative to anaerobic decomposition.

🔹 Step 5: Maturation & Quality Control ✅

Once fermentation is complete, the compost undergoes a curing period to ensure stability and effectiveness. Before distribution, it is tested for:
✔ Nutrient content
✔ Moisture levels
✔ pH balance

The final high-quality compost is then packed and distributed to farmers, gardeners, and businesses to enrich soil and support sustainable agriculture.
